Soil-cement blocks: a sustainable alternative for the reuse of industrial solid waste

This study aimed to analyze potential industrial solid waste that can be added soil-cement blocks. A narrative literature review was conducted in the Scopus academic database, using as search criteria keywords related topic, such soil-cement, building materials, blocks, bricks, physical and mechanical properties, waste, life cycle analysis, civil construction. variety of incorporated into blocks observed, rock, sludge from water treatment plants, wood sawdust, polyethylene terephthalate fibers (PET), vegetable loofah, hemp fibers, rice husks, brachiaria grass, poultry eggshells, sugar cane bagasse, wheat barley straw, welding slag, foundry sand, quartzite mining, construction, demolition, turning, pulp industry grains, steel mill co-products. Among investigated wastes, those improved properties were grains cellulose industry, Brachiaria by-products with granulated blast furnace slag. The produced no satisfactory results a plant, sugarcane loofah. Through this research, it possible verify behavior is influenced by several factors their manufacture, mainly regarding type percentage waste. However, important concerned its application so not increase environmental impacts long term.
